Looking ahead to 2024, and we’ve got some big milestones to celebrate. From an internal perspective, C-Screens will be celebrating its 10-year anniversary and come early spring, we’ll have completed the first “World Cup gestation” period since the first lockdown.

Not the most common way of looking at things, but my mind often works in World Cup (or major global sporting events) time cycles. Once the final whistle blows at World Cup final, or the closing ceremony of an Olympics comes to an end, who doesn’t think “I wonder where things will be by the time the next tournament starts,” or, ”blimey, I will be X years old by the time this comes around again”?

Talking of sporting event cycles, next summer will bring two huge sporting events, The Olympic Games and the Euro’s. Most notably this is the last Olympics in European time zones for 12 years as the Games revisit LA in 2028, and heads to Brisbane for 2032.

Summertime always brings out the best of the sporting calendar. We work regularly with the likes of CBRE & Savills to help them activate their outdoor spaces, with the installing of giant screens showcasing Wimbledon, Test Match and short form cricket, like The Hundred, proving hugely popular.

The Euro’s will be an interesting one, there is no major men’s football tournament in European time zones until 2028 when the tournament will be held across the British Isles. The next Men’s World Cup will be held in North America in 2026. Women’s football has been welcomed and embraced by fans old and new, and the celebrations of the Women’s Euro’s in 2022 and World Cup this year were fantastic successes for us and our big screen locations. Men’s football, however, is almost a different sport and needs far more planning to deliver great experiences for fans to watch games.

A tight sporting schedule next year means many of the events overlap, producing a monumental Sunday on the 14th of June, featuring the Wimbledon men’s final in the afternoon followed by the Euros final that evening.

However, there is no time to dwell and wonder where life will be in 2028 when Harry Kane lifts the trophy (we can hope). The following weekend brings us the 152^nd Open at Royal Troon before the action moves to Paris and the Olympics on July 26^th.

As the packed Summer of sport comes to a close, we have one last hurrah with the Paralympic Games, which I always find an absolutely awe-inspiring event. Before our screens around the country come down for another year.
